Bikeraft Commute

Lower Yakima River - May 1st, 2026

May is here and I started the month off with a Bikerafting commute to/from work. I’m fortunate to have access to two different rivers that are within range of my typical bike commute. I’ve previously always completed my bikeraft trips on non-work days, but I had the idea to incorporate this into my regular commute since I had some time and nice weather. I loaded my packrafting gear on the bike and rode my regular morning commute into work. After work I rode a few miles to a standard put-in on the lower Yakima river at the Hyde Road launch (see Lower Yakima route). Once at the put-in, I unloaded my bike and inflated my packraft and loaded my bike on the boat. I paddled down to the standard take-out at Chamna and then resumed my bike commute back home. All in a day’s work.
